Continuous data protection Software, is also known as continuous backup software - which often refers to the backing up of computer data by automatically saving a copy of every change made to that data into organized snapshots or sector maps on a physical drive. It allows the user or administrator to restore a PC's hard drive configuration to any point in time.

Continuous backups & continuous data protection is different from traditional backup in that you don't have to specify the point in time to which you would like to recover until you are ready to perform a restore.
Traditional backups can only restore data to the point at which the backup was actually taken. With continuous backups & continuous data protection, there is no backup schedule. System snapshots can be performed silently in the background on a hourly schedule - creating continous backups of your PC's configuration(s) into indexable snapshots. The Snapshots and associated data are written to the hard disk ath the physical sector level - eliminating the need for nightly scheduled backups.
The traditional backup recovery process takes a long time, and you most likely will lose all information added or modified since the last backup was performed. See our article on "The differences between RollBack and traditional data backups" - In a nutshell, relying on traditional backups will cost you PC downtime and hamper your organizations productivity.
Continuous Backup & Continuous data protection using Snapshot-Based Backups
To improve data integrity and faster recovery from data corruption, diciplined IT shops have shown a greater interest in snapshot-based backup solutions as part of their continuous backup / continuous data protection strategy. Unlike conventional backups, continuous backup solutions maintain a more frequent watch over your system and PC's data.
RollBack Rx's snapshot-based continuous backup solution delivers added security by allowing you to store the state of your data more often, usually hourly, or on system start-up. Should the need arise, you would not have to spend hours restoring all of your data from a previous days' backup. Instead, you will be able to restore data quickly from any previously stored system snapshot.
The RollBack Rx Continuous backup solution allows you to restore your PC(s) to any snapshot. These snapshots could be automated silently in fixed intervals such as every hour, or whenever the system is turned on. (or a particular file is executed)
